Character Wolver from Spiral Knights Characters. NOTE: I was given permission to upload this, this is not my work and the author wants to remain anonymous. As a general rule, it's tough to be properly tanky in Spiral Knights. You're almost always better off going for offense at the expense of defense. With this in mind, most players opt to choose armor that gives them some sort of damage, or speed bonus for their weapons.

In my opinion, you should get both. But if you have to choose between one or the other, go Vog Cub. FSC should be your primary mission for mats, crowns, and, until you get good at DaN (and have a loadout that works for it), your main source of Radiants as well. Besides full Fire resistance, Vog Cub also has Elemental defense, which covers just about everything in FSC except Trojans (who do full Normal damage), and Slags (who do Shadow damage).
Shadowfire blocks, Red Rovers, and Vanaduke himself all deal Elemental damage, so Elemental defense is far more important than Shadow/Piercing defense in FSC.Freeze Resistance is honestly a bit iffy because regardless of how much you have, it doesn't affect your chances of being afflicted by Freeze, only how long it lasts. Translation: If you get Freeze-Locked - where every enemy that hits you re-freezes you, effectively preventing escape - you're pretty much doomed no matter how high your Freeze resistance is, unless you have Remedy Pills or a teammate handy.
